Bazaars of Hyderabad

Often when the classroom noise level goes up, teachers are heard to be saying, "This is a classroom, not a Bazaar." But last week the 7th standard classroom was actually turned into a Bazaar.

This was an activity to support a lesson in their English subject, called "Bazaars of Hyderabad". The students brought some snacks and other eatables, along with few stationary  which they sold in the class. The buyers were the staff of the school during the break time.

The students learnt few nuances of selling and doing business, while procuring a profit too. In 15 minutes the class had a turn over of Rupees 300/-.

This has encouraged us to think of a one day school bazaar in the future.

Indian Independence Day 2012

Children are always excited about special events. The Independence Day celebration was a great opportunity for them all to get involved and learn at the same time. The students of 5th and 6th standards performed 2 skits, besides exhibiting their drawings and other projects. Students of the 7th standard dressed up as prominent Indians who were part of the struggle for freedom. The parents of many students were present to enjoy and encourage their children.

We took a leaf out of our partner school St.John's and hosted a Garden picnic for the parents, students and staff of the HOPE foundation School in Bhuj. We appreciate the efforts of the staff and students in making this a successful event. The idea was to help nurture collaborative efforts between the parents and staff, which would result in making learning an awesome experience for the students.

Despite the fact it was fasting month for many Muslim parents, most of them made it a point to come and attend with their children. It was also the time where we announced school plans for the current academic year. Couple of boys performed a dance and few teachers sung a song during this event to entertain the guests. Looking forward to such wonderful times together. I have not added captions as the pictures speak for themselves.
